Stonehedge Fiber Mill "Shepherd's Wool" Kits and Patterns for Sale

In connection with Joan Hoover of Heritage Spinning and Weaving of Lake Orion, Michigan, we are developing patterns and kits specifically to showcase the wonderful colors and soft texture of our special Shepherd's Wool yarn.

The patterns may be used with other worsted weight yarns, and contain complete instructions, including charts where appropriate, for knitting the pictured project. Each pattern purchased alone is $6.

Kits include all the yarn needed to complete the project shown. No need to buy a dozen skeins of yarn! Unless, of coures, you want leftover to play with! Prices vary.

Andean-style knit hat in bright colors

Andean-style knit hat in bright colors

This Andean-style hat is a delightfully-different hat for kids and adults both. The pattern includes a color picture and full instructions for knitting the intricate-looking but actually surprisingly simple combination of slipped stitches and purl stitches on a stockinette stitch base. Original pattern by Joan Hoover, suitable for intermediate knitters who can use double pointed needles.

Kit for large or small, $19.50. Includes pattern and all Shepherd's Wool yarn needed to make one hat of either size. Pattern only, $6.

If you've never tried cables, this is a great first project. The instructions are clear and complete, written by Joan Hoover, who teaches knitting classes at her store, Heritage Spinning and Weaving of Lake Orion, Michigan. Buy two skeins of Shepherd's Wool yarn to make this carefully-detailed piece. Note the moss-stitch borders to keep it lying flat, and the mirror-image cables on either side of the central, braided cable. And then those wonderful ruffles! Or suit yourself (or recipient) and leave the ruffles off.

Then be bold, and experiment! Imagine it knit two or three times wider to make a wonderfully soft and inviting stole! Suitable for intermediate knitters, you should be comfortable with knit and purl stitches.
